A Weekend Serenade

By Sharon Lia Robinson

from the local consignment shop
this lovely little cloth bag I just found

the clasp and the knob
appear difficult at times
to close

like your heart
the Lord tells me

this other bag
that you almost bought
has a clasp
that is easier to close

yet you were right
to wait around the shop
looking like a waif
until I gave you the clue
for this bag that is just for you

this bag with the lovely
embroidered flower design
you just bought
also has a slightly discolored place
you didn’t notice at first
and so does your heart

the stain that I have cleansed
for you

although the small consignment shop
has no name
the owner is not to blame

Lord Meher Baba
I took your name
all around town
now I am tired
and almost lame
from all the walking

saying your name
without a rosary
talking to myself
and some people see

the indifference
the Divine Game

the house that was sold
the barking dog
the new owner who smiled
and introduced his pet

the Lord smiles kindly
we are not finished yet.
