Uninvited Space

Uninvited Space DVD

Sharon and Susan

Sharon Robinson with Susan Chancey, circa January, 1979  from the DVD.

“Uninvited Space,” Poetry by Sharon Lia Robinson, Journal Entries by Susan Chancey.

A nineteen minute DVD originally filmed on reel to reel videotape, for the Goddard-Cambridge Theatre Project, Cambridge, Massachusetts. Filmed by Lynne Conroy.

A DVD is available for $16, (payable to Sharon), to support the cost of 2008 reel to reel archival transfer to DVD and 2010 synopsis.

This older film has some crackling sounds that have not yet been fully omitted, due to cost of such a project. Yet the heart-felt words of Sharon and Susan come through strong and clear. Examples of early second-wave feminist writing.

Uninvited Space

a great fat woman

hips swaying wide

claims to be an actress

and you who see the film

might renounce old illusions

mistakes bad attractions

and you who know the score

recover your minds

to see you’ve been had

like this woman

remembering

the smile your eyes once buried

those looks which murdered her mind

like this woman

slashing contortions

shaming betrayals

shattering insults

dissolving the blindness

as she dazzles you with her life.
